Over $14,000 Raised For Pediatric Brain Tumor Research and Support at the 1st Annual Life of Riley Foundation Golf Tournament  Sarasota, Fl – November 28, 2007 – It was a picture-perfect day when 88 golfers turned out to play the newly redesigned West Course of Laurel Oak Country Club on October 1, 2007 as Jersey Mike’s Subs hosted a charity golf tournament for The Life of Riley Foundation netting over $14,000 for the non-profit. “We were overwhelmed by the generosity of everybody”, remarked Bill Schulte, owner of Jersey Mike’s Subs. And generous they were. When SNN 6 Sports Anchor Antawan Smith kicked off the live auction portion of the awards dinner nobody was sure how the evening would pan out. But when one participant bid $2500 for a diamond necklace it was clear that the event was going to be a huge success for The Life of Riley Foundation. “We have lots of people to thank for this”, commented Bill Schulte’s wife Kathleen. “Namely the committee members, the volunteers, the entire staff at Laurel Oak Country Club and all the corporate sponsors and businesses who helped make this such a success. We are so grateful to live in such a generous community.” The Life of Riley Foundation dedicates itself to raising awareness of and funding research for pediatric brain tumors as well as assisting families whose children have these tumors. The parking lot outside of the ordinary-looking sub shop in the TuttleBee Plaza at the corner of Bee Ridge and S. Tuttle Avenue was virtually unrecognizable as owners Bill and Kathleen Schulte and their staff transformed it into a festive party scene complete with a DJ booth and candle-lit banquet tables. Inside a long buffet table was stocked with platters of their award-winning subs including Philly Cheese Steaks and The Original Italian #13. Balloons danced in the air as DJ JELVIS spun tunes by Jersey natives Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra, Bon Jovi and countless others. There were raffles, games and Jersey trivia where guests could win t-shirts, hats, CDs, movies and more. The evening raised $1,000 for The Life of Riley Foundation which is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of and supporting research for pediatric brain tumors. Giving back to the community will be a major part of the Schultes opening celebration when they will donate proceeds of their grand opening sales to the Lakewood Ranch High School Boosters Club. Customers need to bring in their celebratory coupon, found in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, donate $1 to the foundation and their sub is on the house. For Bill Schulte, tailgating at Giants Stadium always included Jersey Mike’s Subs and it’s those fond memories that inspired him and his wife Kathleen to open their existing location soon after moving here from New Jersey in 2003. Bill, a former Convertible Bond Salesman in New York, was born and raised at the Jersey Shore, attended Red Bank Regional High School and graduated from The College of New Jersey. Kathleen, formerly an Advertising Copywriter for Macy’s in New York, is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated from Upsala College in New Jersey. The couple lives in Sarasota with their two daughters, Natalie and Kate, who attend Lakeview Elementary. Peter Cancro, President of Jersey Mike’s Franchise Systems, said: “Our company continues to grow because of enthusiastic, community-minded folks like the Schultes who not only want to run a successful business, but want to reach out to their neighbors as well.
